A Little of My Story and What Brought Me Here
When I was little I was fortunate to grow up in a loving home with two parents who loved me and taught me good values. We always had a roof over our heads and food to eat, but I didn’t realize that, to some degree I lived “without.” Don’t get me wrong. I was blessed as I know some kids had and still have it much worse than I did, but there were times when my classmates had things that I did not have. By the time I was in High School I had made up my mind that I was NOT going to live in poverty when I got older.
Part of my reasoning for not wanting to live in poverty is because even as a kid I knew it took money to help others for creating a better world. And I have always wanted to help others, but you have to have resources for yourself before you can help someone else. I knew this back then, and I still know it now!
My Grandmother
My Grandma said something when I was a kid that always stuck with me. She would say “Always accept money when it is offered.” This kind, caring, giving woman who NEVER really knew what it was like to have money would help others without expecting anything for it. But she was no fool either. If she did a service for someone and they paid she would accept it graciously. I have been given a treasure that is worth much more than money being a part of this community! And I would be a fool not accept all the free gifts I am receiving here.
Again, my grandma was NOT a selfish woman. As matter of fact, she was a hard worker and one of the most selfless people I knew. She did everything she could to care for her family. She worked various “odd jobs” to support her children and herself after her husband passed away. This community and even the Internet didn’t exist back when she was raising her children. But I have no doubt that she would have joined this wonderful community had she had this opportunity back then!
My High School and College Years
Before being in High School I remember I had told my parents I was going to get a job making a certain amount per hour, which of course was more than either of my parents had made at the time. But now I look back and realize that I should have been doing more research on what people in various career paths make. My brother had some problems which led me into the world of mental health.
I decided to attend college and major in “psychology” because I wanted to help youth like my brother. Although I learned a lot in college, I was shocked when I found out how low the pay is in the mental health profession. Of course by that time I was three years in so I decided to finish my degree. After All, I had been told having a college degree mattered more than what you major in. Come to find that is NOT true at all.
At one time I wanted to help and work with youth (adolescents and teenagers). For a while, I lost my desire to help anyone because I needed to “find myself.” I am still working on that. But now I can dream of not only achieving my own “bucket list,” but helping others again!
Creating a Better World for Everyone
Shortly before graduation from college, I married my High School Sweetheart. We have always had good hearts and enjoyed helping others. I used to dream of creating a better world for both people and animals in a Much Bigger way than we have so far. Now, finally I have found this Amazing online community that is all in on Creating a Better World.
My husband and I have three beautiful daughters together, and currently four pets. Family time is awesome, but it seems there is always a sacrifice that has to be made. I have worked and tried various career paths in life, and it basically always came down to I was paying to work while other people were raising my kids for me. Now I can still work for a living, but raise my kids my way without paying everyone else to do it for me.
